a family session - 100 wonderful days
Two weeks ago, I got to meet and photograph this beautiful Brooklyn family. Baby M was celebrating his 100 days and this is something of a big deal in Korean culture. Every birthday is a big deal, but certain birthday's hold special meaning for Korean families. Long ago, childhood diseases were quite common and unfortunately the survival rate was quite low. Korean parents kept their babies indoors for the first 100 days in order to protect them from disease. After the 100 days, the new baby was introduced to family, friends and relatives. To celebrate this special occasion, rice cakes and other special delicacies were served. Pretty neat, huh?
What I love most about this job is meeting new families. I have always enjoyed watching people interact with one another, especially families with infants. The first year in a new mother's life is quite difficult and apart from all the physical changes a woman's body goes through, it's a mental and emotional roller coaster. It made my heart smile that dad understood this. The words that spilled from his mouth in regards to his beautiful wife almost had me in tears. When I looked over at mom, she was positively glowing.
Baby M was an absolute delight and did so well throughout the entire session. Only at the very end did he start to fuss but only because he was hungry. Little Markus, the family dachshund also joined in on the photoshoot and is no stranger to the camera.
Family M - Thank you so very much for welcoming me into your home to photograph your beautiful baby boy. It was an absolute pleasure.
